Case Study: Illuminating Student Success Beyond the Test Score
It All Begins Here
The Partner
Clarksdale Collegiate Public Charter School prepares scholars in the Mississippi Delta to excel in high school and college by providing rigorous instruction within a structured, ambitious, and jubilant school community.
The Challenge
While state-level accountability measures provide a snapshot of school performance, they often fail to capture the nuances of student growth and the "long-game" impact of a charter education.
The school leadership turned to Bloom Education Group to conduct customized research and program evaluation. They wanted to dig deeper into their student data to answer critical questions:
Are students improving the longer they stay with the school?
How does performance compare to the local municipal district when looking at specific subgroups?
What success metrics exist beyond standard state test scores?
Our Approach: Moving Beyond Surface-Level Data
Bloom worked closely with Clarksdale Collegiate to identify and analyze data points that illuminate their unique successes and highlight areas for targeted improvement. We moved beyond "pass/fail" metrics to examine longitudinal growth and comparative advantages.
1. Longitudinal Impact Analysis
We analyzed proficiency differences based on when students first enrolled. The data revealed a "longer-term enrollment" advantage:
The Head Start: Students who started at Clarksdale Collegiate in Elementary School maintained or improved proficiency 10 percentage points higher than their peers who started in Middle School.
Math Proficiency: Students who have been with the school since elementary school outperformed the general MS proficiency average by 7 percentage points.
2. Local District Benchmarking
To provide context for families, we compared Clarksdale Collegiate’s performance against the local Municipal School District (MSD) for the 2024-2025 school year.
Academic Proficiency Rates for SY 2024-2025
3. Growth for Specialized Populations
Our evaluation found that academic supports are driving exceptional outcomes for students with disabilities. These students are achieving growth rates in ELA more than 2.5 times that of their peers in the traditional public school district.
4. Holistic Success Indicators
Bloom helped the school track "college-ready" indicators that standard reports might miss:
Early College Readiness: 9th graders at Clarksdale Collegiate achieved an average 13.9 on the ACT, nearly matching the local high school average of 14.7, despite being years away from graduation.
Stakeholder Satisfaction: 96% of families reported satisfaction with the school, a sentiment reflected in a 12% enrollment growth (+69 students) year-over-year.
The Result
By partnering with Bloom Education Group for customized research, Clarksdale Collegiate now has a data-backed narrative that proves their model works. They can confidently demonstrate to parents and stakeholders that the longer a student stays at Clarksdale Collegiate, the more they grow.
"Academic performance is more than state test scores. We work with schools to figure out which data to collect to illuminate their successes and where they need to improve."
Small Steps Create Big Shifts
It All Begins Here
Confidence doesn’t always arrive with a bold entrance. Sometimes, it builds quietly, step by step, as we show up for ourselves day after day. It grows when we choose to try, even when we’re unsure of the outcome. Every time you take action despite self-doubt, you reinforce the belief that you’re capable. Confidence isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about trusting that you can figure it out along the way.
The key to making things happen isn’t waiting for the perfect moment; it’s starting with what you have, where you are. Big goals can feel overwhelming when viewed all at once, but momentum builds through small, consistent action. Whether you’re working toward a personal milestone or a professional dream, progress comes from showing up — not perfectly, but persistently. Action creates clarity, and over time, those steps forward add up to something real.
You don’t need to be fearless to reach your goals, you just need to be willing. Willing to try, willing to learn, and willing to believe that you’re capable of more than you know. The road may not always be smooth, but growth rarely is. What matters most is that you keep going, keep learning, and keep believing in the version of yourself you’re becoming.
